Tekken Movie Trailer Hits

British online retailer Play.com has unleashed a full trailer for the live action Tekken motion picture. The movie will get a Japanese theatrical release in March and hit DVD in the UK on May 4.

I’m a bit disappointed to see all of the fighting limited to strictly two arenas, but at least the character recreations look accurate without looking ridiculous.

Cameron’s Battle Angel Next Year?

Yahoo Movies reports that director James Cameron is prepping his live action Battle Angel feature for a theatrical release next year. Cameron has been kicking around the possibility of creating a live action adaptation of Yukito Kishiro’s Gunnm manga for several years now. According to Yahoo, “Cameron is currently in pre-production on his next movie, Battle Angel in which he’ll use some of the same CG technology he created for Avatar. That film is slated to hit theaters in 2011.”

Vertical Acquires Tezuka’s Ayako

Amazon reports that Vertical will release a 704 page compiled volume of Osamu Tezuka’s 1972-1973 drama manga series Ayako on October 19. Vertical hasn’t formally announced or confirmed the acquisition yet. However, Vertical marketing director Ed Chavez did recently state, “Hopefully we’ll get another Tezuka title for October 2010.”

Lilpri ~ Yubipuru Hime-chen! Anime Announced

The February issue of Pucchigumi magazine has announced the development of an anime adaptation of Sega’s interactive trading card series Lilpri ~ Yubipuru Hime-chen! The Lilpri cards are available from arcade machines with interactive screens. After purchasing cards, users scan the cards to customize and interact with digital characters on the interactive touch screen. The game stars three elementary school girls – Ringo Yukimori, Reira Takashiro, and Natsuki Sasahara – who are also idol princesses. It’s like Idolm@ster for little girls.

Manga creator Mai Jinna designed the Lilpri characters. Her Lilpri manga has been serialized in Pucchigumi Magazine since February 2009.

Seikon no Qwaser Director’s Cut Scheduled

The official homepage for this month’s new Seikon no Qwaser anime television series has announced that “director’s cut” episodes will premiere on the Anime One streaming site beginning on the 16th. Japanese viewers will be able to purchase 7 days of streaming access to “director’s cut” episodes for 105 yen each. The first “director’s cut” DVD/BD volume will go on sale in Japan on April 21.

The series premiered for free broadcast on terrestrial networks last week in a heavily censored version. The AT-X satellite TV network, known for broadcasting risqué anime with less censoring, will begin airing the series on the 26th.

Anime One is currently streaming the broadcast cut of episode 1 for free, although access to the episode requires registration on the Biglobe site (free, but must be done in Japanese).

New Oofuri & Night Raid Trailers Online

The official Japanese homepage for the Ookiku Furikabutte baseball anime franchise has added a streaming trailer for the show’s upcoming second TV series. The trailer advertises both the upcoming compilation DVD release of the show’s first season and the second season which will premiere this spring.

The homepage for the upcoming Senko no Night Raid historical espionage anime TV series has added a 15 second TV commercial documenting the animation staff doing location reference scouting in Shanghai, China. The show will premiere this spring.

Recovery of BABYLIM OP

Japanese video game news site Gpara is now streaming the full length anime opening sequence of the upcoming MMORPG The Tower of Druaga –The Recovery of BABYLIM–. The new animation in this 2:38 clip was produced by the reunited Gonzo studio animators that created the 2008 & 2009 Tower of Druaga anime television series.

Gonzo has gone through drastic contraction, but evidently the studio isn’t completely out of the game.

Halo Legends Release Delayed One Week

Warner Bros. Home Video has rescheduled the release of the Halo Legends anime anthology film from February 9 to February 16. The anthology film will debut OnDemand and via download services, and on DVD, two-disc special edition DVD, and Blu-ray.

Gon TV Series Delayed

Korean entertainment company Daewon Media signed a deal with Japanese publisher Kodansha in 2008 for the rights to develop a CG animated TV series adaptation of Masashi Tanaka’s acclaimed manga Gon. The program was due to premiere in early 2010. Due to a financing contract for the production just getting finalized last month, Daewon has now revised the anticipated premiere of the Gon animation to fall 2011.
