The official Japanese homepage for next month’s Inuyasha: Kanketsu-hen television series now hosts a streaming trailer. The show will premiere simultaneously on Japanese television and American online streaming on October 3.

Ulfuls Mascot to get an Anime

Composer Tomohisa Ishikawa, whose credits include composing the soundtracks for Kite Liberator and the Appleseed: Ex Machina movie, will direct next month’s Waimo-kun ~Kiiroi Kao Shite Babanban anime TV series. Waimo-kun is the mascot character of the rock band Ulfuls. Around 1989 Ulfuls vocalist Tortoise Matsumoto drew flyers advertising the band’s live performances. The flyers included a stylized character that shouted “Wai mo! Wai mo!” (Me too! Me too!) meaning “I’m going to the live concert too!” in the Kansai dialect. The character eventually adopted the name “Waimo-kun” and became the band’s mascot.

The series of short Waimo-kun anime episodes will air on the Music On! cable & satellite network beginning October 6.

Natsu no Arashi 2 Blows into Crunchyroll

Crunchyroll has announced plans to begin online distribution of the Natsu no Arashi! 2 anime series on October 4th at 11am PST, an hour after the first episode airs on Japanese TV. The series will be accessible to viewers in the United States and its territories, Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. The complete first series is already available on the Crunchyroll site.

Viz Talks Vampire Knight Anime

After officially announcing its acquisition of the Vampire Knight anime series at the San Diego Comic Con last July, Viz again officially announced its acquisition of the Vampire Knight anime series yesterday. Viz hasn’t clarified if its license includes only the 13 episode first Vampire Knight anime series or includes the 13 episode Vampire Knight Guilty second series, nor has Viz hinted at a domestic release date. However, Viz did confirm yesterday that its license covers all TV broadcast, home video, streaming, download-to-own, and merchandising rights.

Randys Trailer Released

United Entertainment has released a trailer for director Kenichi Fujiwara’s (High School Girl Rika: Zombie Hunter) live action film Randys. The movie is an adaptation of Koichi Nagata’s 2002 manga series about two tough young men that open a problem-solving service. They name their company “Randys” after Hanshin Tigers pitcher Randy Bass. The film will open in Japanese limited theatrical release on November 14.

Bay Offers Autographed Transformers DVDs for Charity

Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen director Michael Bay is now accepting reservations for DVD and Blu-ray copies of Transformers 2 and combo packages of both Transformers movies bearing his personal autograph. Blu-ray combo packs will also be autographed by actor Tyrese Gibson, who played Master Sergeant Epps. Proceeds will be donated to the Make A Wish Foundation.

Regardless of what you think about Bay or the Transformers movies, this is unquestionably a classy move.

Question:
There exists a scenario often found in romantic comedy or “harem” situations. Stated briefly, the actions of a school government official towards “maintaining a standard of moral behavior among the school population” – often portrayed to a rather extreme level; a scenario with way too many examples to list. Is this scenario merely the creation of one director’s imagination, or is it rooted in real life? And notwithstanding that, in the majority of instances, the official is a girl – more often than not, either one of the romantic rivals or a member of the “harem.” Are you aware of any feature where the official in said scenario was a boy?

Who’s Cryin’ Now?

Crunchyroll will begin simulcasting next month’s Asura Cryin’ 2 anime television series on October 1st, within an hour of its premiere Japanese broadcast. Crunchyroll will also stream the 13 episode first season that aired in Japan earlier this year. Weekly Asura Cryin’ 2 episodes will be accessible to viewers located in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland.

Crayon Shin-chan Anime to Continue

In a press conference yesterday, TV Asahi president Hiroshi Hayakawa announced that the Crayon Shin-chan anime franchise will continue despite the untimely demise of its creator, Yoshito Usui. Mr. Usui passed away on September 11th as a result of an apparent accidental fall during a mountain hiking trip. Hayakawa confirmed that the TV Asahi network that broadcasts the weekly Crayon Shin-chan anime series, has discussed the possibility of continuing the production with animation studio Shinei Douga and Usui’s surviving family.

The tremendously popular Crayon Shin-chan anime franchise premiered in 1992 and has 680 episodes and 17 theatrical features, so far.

Yutaka “YamaKan” Yamamoto, director of the Kannagi TV anime and episode director for Suzumiya Haruhi & Lucky Star, will helm a live action feature adaptation of the award winning romance novel Watashi no Yasashikunai Senpai (My Mean Sempai), written by Akira. The high school romance revolves around teen girl Yamako Iriomote (played by Umika Kawashima) who writes love letters to an upperclassman, but never delivers them. Yamako’s life gets more complicated when “smelly, disgusting, annoying” Fuwa (played by Satoshi Kanada) learns of Yamako’s crush and insists on trying to assist in her romantic pursuit. The movie will hit theaters next year.
