Kaze no Stigma Creator Takahiro Yamato Has Passed Away

Japanese publisher Fujimi Shobo has confirmed that author Takahiro Yamato passed away on Monday, July 20, due to an unspecified illness. Yamato was the author of the ongoing Kaze no Stigma light novel series and a winner of the 13th annual Fujimi Shobo Fantasia Novel Award. Gonzo adapted the Kaze no Stigma novel series into a 2007 TV anime. The novel series presently stands unfinished with six main volumes and five short story collections.
Yamato seems a bit enigmatic because his birth date, age, and the exact circumstances of his death seem difficult to ascertain.

It’s sad to hear him pass, but I guess “the mysterious manga-ka” will always exist in some way, shape, or form.
On another note, the KAZE NO STIGMA anime series is proving rather good so far…

I find it strange that a lot of times when a Japanese citizen dies there is mentioning of a unspecified illness. This phenomenon is apparent even in anime. I wonder why that is. Could it be that the disease has some negative stigma attached (no pun intended). Cancer or Aids for example ?

I’m confused a bit by this distinctive Japanese tendency also. I think it has to do with a Japanese sense of privacy and tact. It’s okay to say reveal that someone died of an “illness,” but specifying exactly what illness – whether it was pnemunonia or AIDS – may be considered inappropriately intrusive of personal privacy.
