Is Blood Getting a Limited Release?
Samuel Goldwyn Films has released its list of the Landmark theaters that will premiere the live action Blood: The Last Vampire movie in California, Illinois, Massachusetts, Texas, Washington, and Washington D.C. on July 10th.
Hopefully the film will be getting a bigger American theatrical roll-out than just 9 theaters.

That’s still more cities than the usual L.A./NY release pattern, so maybe Sony actually thinks it has a winner on its hands with this one.

Sony usually does anime theatrical releases justice (though I’m rather miffed that Oshii’s THE SKY CRAWLERS didn’t make the rounds). But seeing a limited release is somewhat nice… it tells me that though they didn’t release Oshii’s film in a limited-to-wide release, and although they skipped out on FFVII: Advent Children, they haven’t abandoned the thought altogether.

That’s because it would have bombed horribly here to the point that it wouldn’t even make money off a limited release. You should be glad it got picked up at all, since I’m still waiting for the possibility of any distributor showing any interest in the Tachiguishi movies. As for Advent Children, it got bootlegged to the point that the company would just lose money releasing it in theaters. Blood’s cashing in on Underworld and Twilight, which is why it’s getting a theatrical release at all.
