We just finished watching this tonight, we bought the BLu Ray version, and would buy More:)

The anime had a calming affect simular to Mushi Shi for me, despite it's graphic nature.

NOTE:May include spoilers***
Shigurui is a great anime and after viewing Texhnolyze I think I will watch anything Hirotsugu Hamazaki directs.

The thing I like about Shigurui is the way it fools you in to thinking you're going to see that opening fight happen between Fujiki Gennosuke and Irako Seigen. Instead the show tells the past history between these two men to how they got to the point where they were, and why they hate each other so much. After watching their story unfold it makes you want to see even more how the fight will turn out.

It's interesting. It's like those movies that open with the a part of the ending scene of the film, and you sit there scratching your head thinking this will make sense at the end. Then when it gets to the end of the film, it's like "ah.. now I understand this bit!"

I also agree it's highly unlikely that there will be anymore of the story told on the screen.
