Second Chi\'s Sweet Home TV Series Announced

Japanese publisher Kodansha has confirmed that a second Chi’s Sweet Home anime television series will premiere in April. The first 104 episode series of 3 minute long daily installments aired last year.

Ai Iijima Died of Pneumonia

Japanese celebrity Ai Iijima was found dead in her Tokyo apartment last December. A police investigation has now determined that Iijima died of of pneumonia rather than foul play or, as speculation last year rumored, an intentional drug overdose.

Iijima co-created the three-volume Time Traveler Ai manga series with artist Takeshi Takebayashi in 2000.

Valentine Banner Contest

So we haven’t run a new contest in awhile, and we need a new banner… Wait! We can get a new banner and still be lazy by having our more-talented-than-us members design our banner for us! Ah, my work here is done, can I have off for the rest of the day?

Seriously, we do need a new banner, and Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching. This time, we’ll give the winner the thinpak set of your choice! Just submit them by Feb 9th (next Monday) so we can put it on the site for next week. We’ll pick the winner Monday morning.

No Second Suzumiya Haruhi TV Series in April

Following the recent speculation that the second Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi television series will premiere in April, fueled by the cover of the March issue of Newtype Magazine, a representative of Kadokawa Shoten Animation Group has clarified, for the Japanese J-Cast news site, that the April broadcast will actually be a regional re-broadcast of the 2006 television series. Reportedly there are no plans for any public announcements about the status of the second Suzumiya Haruhi television series planned for the immediate future.

Joost Adds Koi Koi Seven

The Joost video-streaming service now offers the first five episodes of the 2005 Koi Koi Seven anime television series with English subtitles. The episodes are available through co-operation with UK based distributor Gong Anime, which secured online distribution rights to the series last year.

The series has never been officially available in North America before. No plans for an American DVD release have been mentioned.

Yurumates Trailer Online

The Indeprox producers association website how features a silent Flash trailer for the upcoming Yurumates OVA, based on saxyun’s 4-koma comedy manga about an 18 year female old high school graduate that moves into an apartment building home to numerous aimless “ronin’ (high school graduates unable to get accepted into college).

A preview DVD containing one complete anime short will be released on March 25th. The full length OVA DVD will go on sale April 24th.

DLE Launches YouTube Channel

Dream Link Entertainment (DLE), Japan’s “number one” Flash animation studio, has launched a YouTube channel, offering a variety of its anime productions. DLE is the studio behind popular Flash anime television series and theatrical motion pictures including Fightension School, Eagle Talon, and Sguy and the Family Stone.

Suzumiya Haruhi Second Season in April

A new TV commercial for Kadokawa Shoten’s Newtype magazine has revealed the tentative cover of the March issue, which prominently features an announcement that the second Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi television series will premiere in April. The March issue of the magazine will provide details about the staff and story for the new TV anime.

The first Suzumiya Haruhi television series premiered in April 2006. The super-deformed Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi-chan and Nyoron Churuya-san spin-off anime series are scheduled to premiere on YouTube on February 13th.

Toriyama Draws Ayu

As previously reported, the live action Dragonball: Evolution motion picture will use vocalist Ayumi Hamasaki’s song “Rule” as its theme song. The Sankei Newspaper now reveals that Dragonball creator Akira Toriyama has drawn a portrait of Hamasaki wearing Dragonball protagonist Son Goku’s clothing. The illustration will be used as the picture label on first pressing copies of the “Rule” CD & DVD single. Reportedly “Ayu” is a big Dragonball fan. This illustration is the first art that Toriyama has created specifically for a pop music product, and Toriyama’s first portrait of a real person to be used as a commercial product.

The “Rule” single will go on sale in Japan on February 25. The Dragonball: Evolution movie opens in Japan on March 13, and in America on April 8.

Kuuki Ningyou Movie in Production

The Sponichi Annex newspaper reports that director Hirokazu Koreeda has just finished principal filming on his live action feature film “Kuuki Ningyou,” based on the romantic fantasy manga by Yoshiie Goda about a vinyl doll that begins to experience human emotions. The film is scheduled for release next fall.

FUNi Confirms Fullmetal Alchemist Premium Collection Acquisition

During this past weekend’s Ohayocon convention, FUNimation announced plans for a domestic release of the 2006 Fullmetal Alchemist Premium Collection DVD. The Japanese DVD contains the 10 minute long original “Seven Homunculi VS State Alchemists” movie created for the Universal Studios Japan Fullmetal Alchemist Premiere Tour, two six minute long original anime shorts, an an assortment of supplemental videos and features.

The complete contents of the Japanese DVD will be released on bilingual American DVD late this year.

Cartoon Network Closes Toonami Jetstream

The Cartoon Network suddenly closed its Toonami Jetstream website permanently last Friday. The website had offered streaming video content, including multiple episodes of numerous anime series, since July 17, 2006. Naruto episodes previously hosted on the Toonami Jetstream website will remain available on the Cartoon Network’s CN Video site. Episodes of MAR, Blue Dragon, Hikaru no Go, Zatch Bell, and Kiba will no longer be distributed online by the Cartoon Network. The Toonami programming block on the Cartoon Network’s television channel ended its eleven year run in September 2008.
