The official homepage for the Zettai Shougeki ~Platonic Heart~ multimedia franchise now hosts a 3 minute long streaming trailer, which includes 9 seconds of footage from the upcoming Zettai Shougeki anime. The Zettai Shougeki project is scheduled to encompass animation, games, manga, figures, and other goods. The first Zettai Shougeki OVA is scheduled for release on October 25th.

Galge hosts additional screenshots that include nudity.

Gonzo to Animate Dungeon & Fighter

The NHN Japan online game provider company has announced that Gonzo will develop an anime television series adaptation of the Korean side-scrolling action RPG “Dungeon & Fighter.” The anime series, to be titled “Slap Up Party -Arad Senki-,” will debut next year.

Madhouse to Animate Marvel Super Heroes

Marvel Comics has formally announced a partnership with Tokyo based anime production studio Madhouse to develop four 12 episode anime television series featuring Marvel super hero characters. The first series, which will feature Iron Man and Wolverine, among other characters, will premier on the Animax network in early 2010.

Marvel International president Simon Philips has explained that Marvel intends for these super heroes to be redesigned to become “part of the fabric of [Japanese] society.” While Madhouse president Jungo Maruta agrees, “Marvel today is so open-minded. Marvel gives creators freedom to fly.” Madhouse chief operating officer Alex Yeh says of Marvel, “Although they say, ‘I want Japanese anime,’ it’s not what they actually want. They want a hybrid between Japanese and Western animation.”

The Marvel/Madhouse productions will also be developed into Japanese manga while the anime will be distributed via multiple outlets including cellphones.

Death Note II to Receive Limited Theatrical Screenings

Viz Pictures has announced that the live action Death Note II: The Last Name motion picture will screen in limited nationwide theatrical release on October 15 and 16. The list of theaters scheduled to screen the film is available at the official Death Note Films homepage.

Next Mamoru Oshii Work Revealed

The Sports Hochi newspaper reports that Mamoru Oshii’s next directorial effort will be a short live action film titled “ASSAULT GIRL2,” which will be part of the omnibus film “Kiru ~ KILL.” The motion picture will consist of sword fighting action scenes designed to appear as climactic exerpts from longer movies. “Kiru ~ KILL” will open in Japanese theaters on December 6th.

Oshii similarly directed the “.50 Calibur Woman” short movie for the 2003 omnibus film “Killers.”

Suzumiya Haruhi Parody Anime Series Announced

Reportedly the October issue of Gekkan Shonen Ace Magazine has announced the development of two anime series parody spin-offs from The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi. Puyo’s official 4 koma gag manga series “Suzumiya Haruhi-chan no Yuutsu,” and Utsura Uraraka’s 4 koma “Nyoron Churuya-san” doujinshi based on the Suzumiya Haruhi supporting character Tsuruya will both be adapted into “short anime” series distributed on YouTube.

Question:
What’s the significance of angel eggs in Japanese culture or anime. I never came across this concept until I started watching anime. Off the top of my head, I know angel eggs were a part of both Ah! My Goddess and Angelic Layer. Mamoru Oshii’s movie is also called Angel’s Egg. I’m sure there are other anime that involve angel eggs as well.

Second Full Metal Alchemist TV Series Announced

The advertising “obi” sleeve on the freshly released 20th volume of Hiromu Arakawa’s Fullmetal Alchemist manga confirms plans for a second anime TV series. Early last month BONES animation studio president Masahiko Minami stated publicly that BONES was interested in developing more Full Metal Alchemist anime, but, at that time, had made no concrete plans.

Takashi Yanase Creates Public Safety Anime

Takashi Yanase, creator of the perennially popular children’s manga and anime series Anpanman, has co-created a new 20 minute long public service anime titled “Shinjuku Shin-chan Patrol: Warui Otona ni Ki o Tsukete” (Shinjuku Shin-chan Patrol: Be Careful of Bad Adults). The short feature depicts costumed hero Shinjuku Shin-chan teaching children what to do “when a person driving a car calls out to you,” “when you’re riding an elevator alone,” “when you return home alone and no one’s home,” and “when someone you don’t know calls on the phone.”

The Tokyo MX television network will broadcast the special on August 24th. Beginning on the 26 the special will be available for loan on VHS & DVD from the Shinjuku information center, central library, and Yotsuya ward library, The video will also be hosted on the Shinjuku ward official homepage.
