Angel's Egg may be art for the sake of art; but like other anime produced in other styles, I'm suspect to believe that there's no other director who could have helped produce such an item. (I think the same concept applies to select manga authors, too.)

I love Oshii's work myself, and love the fact that I can watch one of his films, pull any number of observations from said film, and still miss something... and still be uninformed on some critical or analytical aspect of the movie... and still have the capacity to be wrong. Wrong when I know some other, legitimate observation can very well trump my own. The same thing can be said of my interest in Satoshi Kon's work as well.
