FUNimation Acquires Geneon Back Catalog
FUNimation has formally announced its acquisition of distribution rights to a large portion of Geneon USA’s former stable of anime titles. The first releases will hit store shelves as early as the end of this summer.
FUNimation’s acquisition includes:
Black Lagoon & Black Lagoon Second Barrage
Elemental Gelade
Ergo Proxy
The Familiar of Zero (Zero no Tsukaima)
Fate/Stay Night
Hellsing Ultimate
Kamichu
Karin
Kyo Kara Maoh Season 2
The Law of Ueki
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha
Ninja Vixens (live action)
Paradise Kiss
Rozen Maiden & Rozen Maiden Traumend
Shakugan no Shana
Shonen Onmyouji
The Story of Saiunkoku
When They Cry
It’s particularly notable that the FUNimation acquisition doesn’t include any of the Tenchi Muyo anime despite FUNimation presently distributing two of the Tenchi series.

It took them long enough. Chances were good that if nothing happened by convention-season, then nothing was going to happen at all.
It perhaps shouls also be noted that Ninja Vixens is pretty much softcore pornography. I wonder if FUNimation will develop a separate label for it or not.

So, does this mean that FUNimation only has rights to the back catalog volumes? What about the fate of Geneon volumes that never got released? Did FUNimation get the licenses for those as well?
I’m mostly wondering about Rozen Maiden’s final two unreleased volumes.
Even if this is not yet the case, this is still good news.

Excellent news. I was hoping that I’d finally get a chance to finish collecting Rozen Maiden, When They Cry, and Black Lagoon.
