Broccoli Books Acquires Sola

Broccoli Books has formally announced its plans to release an English translation of Chaco Abeno’s Sola manga series next year. A 13 episode (plus 2 unbroadcast episodes) anime television series aired from April to June 2007.

Europe Now the World’s Second Largest Manga Market

The Japan External Trade Research Organization has determined that Europe is now the world’s second largest consumer market for Japanese manga, following behind Japan. Sales of manga in France and Germany alone totaled US $212.6 million in 2006. France alone accounts for nearly two-thirds of all manga purchased in Europe.

AnimeTV Special Episode on January 1st

Bang Zoom! Entertainment will debut a special episode of its AnimeTV video podcast on January 1, 2008. The episode will feature coverage of the Eureka Seven television series and a “Under Exposed” review of the Fatal Fury anime.

Blade of the Immortal Adaptations in Development?

An uncited and unconfirmed report on the Japanese Moon Phase Comment Board states that an anime television series and live action feature film adaptation of Hiroaki Samura’s Mugen no Jyuunin (known in America as “Blade of the Immortal”) manga series are now in development.

Himitsu Anime Adaptation Announced

Japanese manga magazine Melody has formally announced that Reiko Shimizu’s philosophical science fiction suspense manga “Himitsu” (”Secret”) will be adapted into an anime television series, reportedly titled “Himitsu ~ Top Secret,” for broadcast next spring.

Third Jigoku Shoujo Series Announced

Reportedly the Japanese Jigoku Shoujo mobile phone website has formally announced plans for a third Jigoku Shoujo (”Hell Girl”) anime television series. FUNimation is currently releasing the first television series on American DVD.

Bandai Acquires AIKa

Bandai Entertainment has announced plans to release an AIKa Complete Collection multi-disc DVD set on March 18, 2008. The $39.98 set will include all 7 episodes from the original series, a live-action episode not previously released in America, and new bonus features exclusive to this set. The AIKa anime series was previously released in America by Central Park Media under the American title “Agent AIKa.”

Ask John: Will There Be More Gurren Lagann Anime?

Question:
In the prologue of the first episode of Gurren-Lagann, we see a cocky Harlock-esque captain on the bridge of an enormus battleship prepare to engage countless enemies in an otherwordly outerspace battle. This scene has almost no relevance to the rest of the series, and whenever it’s brought up Gainax gives vague answers which often contradict one another. Gainax has mentioned that if Gurren-Lagann is popular enough, it may get a second season or some other kind of animated treat for fans. Does Gurren-Lagann seem popular enough to meet Gainax’s expectations? If so, what are the chances of that amazing prologue getting animated?

Anime collectables and news website Akihabara Channel now hosts an interactive English language map of Tokyo’s Akihabara district that displays annotated English langauge notations and locations of numerous anime and manga related stores, resturants, and similar establishments in the area.

Telepathy Shoujo Ran Anime Announced

Famitsu Magazine has reported that Asano Atsuko’s popular series of “Telepathy Shoujo Ran Jiken Notes” novels will be adapted into a 26 episode anime television series that will debut next spring on NHK’s educational channel.
