BLAME! Movie Announced

Plans for a full CG feature film adaptation of Tsutomu Nihei’s cyberpunk manga BLAME! have been announced at the current Tokyo Anime Fair. The film’s release will be preceded by the release of a short, promotional DVD this summer. Animate.tv hosts a small image of the planned production.

New Anime Series Announced

Adult PC game developer Overflow has formally announced that its popular erotic visual novel game School Days will premier in the form of a mainstream anime television series in July.

The official Japanese homepage for upcoming Gonzo produced anime television series “Dragonaut ~The Resonance~” is now online. The series is scheduled to premier in October.

A formal announcement of an anime adaptation of Peach-Pit’s popular action manga Zombie-Loan has been made. Japanese fan site Moon Phase reports that the production will be a TV series.

Mononoke,” a spin-off from the January 2006 Ayakashi ~Japanese Classic Horror~ anime television series, will premier in July. Mononoke is apparently a spin-off from the “Bakeneko” story arc of the Ayakashi TV series.

Chris Patton to Attend Florida Supercon

The Florida Supercon has announced that American anime voice actor Chris Patton and his musical group PLID will attend this year’s convention as guests. Other anime related guests attending the convention, scheduled for June 22-24, include voice actor Christopher Ayres and “Japanese Comic Punk Action Band” Peelander-Z.

Viz Pictures Screening Ping Pong

Viz Pictures has announced a limited theatrical tour for the acclaimed 2002 live action Japanese film Ping Pong, adapted from the manga by Taiyo Matsumoto. The public screenings begin next month.

The Middle Tennessee Anime Convention has announced that its 2008 convention will convene on April 18th-20th, 2008, at the Cool Springs Conference Center and the Franklin Marriott in Nashville, Tennessee.

Advance registration for the 2007 convention is now closed, but at-the-door admission will be offered.

Ask John: Why is Bloody Violence in Anime So Unrealistic?

Question:
Why in anime violence is so intense and disturbing? In samurai anime shows, when a swordsman cut off one of his enemies’ arms, the blood burst out rapidly. That seems pretty unrealistic. Even the movie Kill Bill shows a good example like that.

Production IG & Masamune Shirow Announce New Manga & Anime Franchise

Japanese news site Anime! Anime! has reported that Production IG will collaborate with manga artist Masamune Shirow again on the co-creation of a franchise called “Shinrei Kari.” Reportedly Production IG is already at work on an anime titled “Shinrei Kari/Ghost Hound,” that will debut on the WOWOW satellite TV network this fall. A manga serial titled “Shinrei Kari ANOTHER SIDE,” illustrated by Asahi Souta, will premier in the May issue of Comic Blade Magazine. The manga is described as “occult tactic action.”

Central Park Media Accused of Piracy

Japanese manga publishing company Libre Publishing has issued a public statement in Japanese and English accusing Central Park Media’s “Be Beautiful” line of yaoi manga of soliciting and publishing translated manga without the authorization of their original Japanese creators and publisher. Libre Publishing calls CPM’s releases “illegal” and encourages consumers not to purchase or distribute any of the “illegal” publications. The statement does not specify exactly which “Be Beautiful” publications are deemed unauthorized translations. Central Park Media has made no public statement in response to the accusation.
