New Devil May Cry Trailer Released

The official Japanese Devil May Cry anime homepage now hosts a new 2 minute long trailer featuring the Devil May Cry 4 game and the first revealed animation footage from the upcoming Devil May Cry anime television series. The anime is tentatively scheduled to premier in Japan in June.

Prince of Tennis DVDs Edited

Anime on DVD reports that Viz’s upcoming DVD release of Prince of Tennis does not include the original, unaltered Japanese opening or ending animation credits sequences. The original Japanese theme songs have reportedly been replaced by original American music and at least the original Japanese ending animation sequence has reportedly been replaced.

You know much more about moe than I do, so I was wondering… can boys be moe? And if so, what anime boys are considered moe? I saw Mamoru-kun and was thinking about if the show was a kind of male moe program since Ayako says that she loves Mamoru’s cuteness, bright smile and rubbery cheeks.

The official homepage for the upcoming crime drama anime television series BACCANO! now hosts a streaming three minute long trailer. The series is scheduled to premier this summer.

The official homepage for the upcoming romantic drama anime television series Sola now hosts a minute long streaming trailer in low and high resolution versions. The series is scheduled to premier on April 6th.

The official homepage for the upcoming mecha drama anime television series Bokurano now hosts its Tokyo Anime Fair trailer, the first trailer to contain actual footage from the anime. The series is scheduled to premier on April 8th.

The official homepage for “Kaze no Shoujo Emily ~Emily of New Moon~,” the upcoming anime adaptation of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s classic children’s novel series, now hosts a streaming trailer for the series’ first episode, which is scheduled to air on April 7th.

The official homepage for the upcoming mecha action anime television series Kissdum ~Engage Planet~ now hosts a 90 second “image clip” video. The series is scheduled to premier on April 3rd.

Wedge Holdings Announces New Anime Productions

Japanese production/distribution company Wedge Holdings has announced plans to develop three new anime series: Velvet Under World, Metal Hazard Mugen, and the tentatively titled “Kuma3.”

Velvet Under World now has an official website.

Metal Hazard Mugen is tentatively planned as a 26 episode television series animated by RADIX.

Manga author Tetsuro Kasahara has formally announced that Madhouse and Digital Frontier will collaborate on the production of an anime adaptation of Kasahara’s mecha manga series Rideback.

Manga author Endou Minari has formally announced that her (his?) manga series Hatenkou Yuugi will be adapted into an anime.

Second Genius Party Movie Confirmed

ICv2 reports that Studio 4°C confirmed plans for a second Genius Party anthology anime movie at the recent Tokyo Anime Fair. The second Genius Party film will include anime shorts from directors including Mahiro Maeda, Kazuto Nakazawa, and French artist Nicholas de Crecy. The film will debut next year. The possibility of a third film was also mentioned at the Tokyo Anime Fair.

Production IG Develops New TV Commercial

Production IG has produced an animated television commercial for Kao Corporation’s Asience shampoo. The TV commercial, titled “Asience: Hairy Tale,” is designed to resemble traditional Japanese woodblock prints and features character designs and direction by Kazuto Nakazawa (Kill Bill, Samurai Champloo) and art direction by Shuichi Hirata (Innocence, XXXHOLiC movie).

Question:
By chance, do you know the origin of the concept of a character in anime either “entering into a contract,” or referring to a “contract”? Said concept has shown up in many different series; just to name a few, Cardcaptor Sakura, Soultaker and Silent Mobius. Is that concept of Eastern or Western origin, or some combination of both?
