Shigofumi Anime Adaptation Announced

According to Japanese fan site Moon Phase, publisher MediaWorks’s Dengeki Bootleg information site has confirmed that Amemiya Ryou’s lite novel Shigofumi ~Stories of Last Letter~ will recieve an anime adaptation.

Hellsing OVA 3 Delayed

The “News & Info” section of the official Japanese Hellsing OVA homepage reports that production on the third episode is behind schedule. As a result, the release of the third OVA has been delayed until later this year. The episode was scheduled to be released in Japan on February 9th.

Anime Coming to Canadian Television

Zannen, Canada reports that the Canadian Radio Television and Telecommunications Commission has approved YTV’s appliction to create a new network titled “The Anime Channel,” targeted exclusively to adults over the age of 18. The new network will broadcast at least 65% anime and up to 35% “anime-related content.”

Zannen, Canada also reports that G4TechTV will broadcast several Geneon owned anime series in the Canadian market, including Tenjho Tenge, GunxSword, and Trigun. The Canadian broadcast of Tenjho Tenge has already begun.

Del Rey Schedules First OEL Manga

Del Rey Manga has announced its first OEL (Original English Language) “manga” title, “Avril Lavigne’s Make 5 Wishes.” The two volume comic story written by Joshua Dysart and illustrated by Camilla D’Errico will debut on April 10th at a retail price of $12.95. The concluding second volume will be released on in July. Canadian rock star Avril Lavigne has been involved in the creation of the comic series bearing her name, and appears as a character in the story.

Reideen Episode 1 Available for Online Viewing

Japanese multimedia site Anime BB now hosts the first episode of the upcoming Reideen anime television series. The streaming episode is available for free online viewing, but is DRM encoded, requiring a current version of Windows Media Player to watch. The 26 episode Reideen television series is scheduled to premier on the WOWOW TV network on March 3rd.

Bandai Announces New Licenses

At the recent Anime LA convention, Bandai Visual confirmed its plans to release the Gunbuster compilation motion picture and Aim for the Top! 2 anime on domestic DVD. The Aim for the Top and Aim for the Top 2 compilation movies will be released this fall. The original 6 episode Aim for the Top 2 OAV series will be released domestically on three DVDs at an undetermined future date.

YALSA Recognizes Death Note

YALSA, the Young Adult Library Services Association, has made its 2007 picks for the top 10 graphic novels for teenage readers. Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata’s Death Note manga series was chosen as one of the ten selections. The other nine selections are American created works.

Ask John: Are Toei and Studio Pierrot Rivals?

Question:
Do Toei Animation and Studio Pierrot have a big rivalry? I’ve noticed something about Toei Animation and Studio Pierrot: they always seem to have a big rivalry going between each other. Like when Dragon Ball Z (Toei) was the biggest thing in the early 90s, the only anime that actually stood a chance against it was Yu Yu Hakusho (Pierrot). And now present time, there’s One Piece (Toei) and Naruto (Pierrot). And it always seems to involve the most popular titles! Is it just me or is this not a coincidence?

Keroro Gunso Movie 2 Full Trailer Released

The official Keroro Gunso movie homepage now hosts a streaming trailer for the upcoming second Keroro Gunso motion picture, “Chou Gekijouban Keroro Gunso 2: Shinkai no Princess de Arimasu!” (”Super Motion Picture Keroro Gunso 2: Deep Sea Princess, it is!”). The movie, along with the bonus film “Chibi Gunso: Keroball no Himitsu!?” (”Mini Gunso: Secret of the Keroball!?”) is scheduled for Japanese theatrical release on March 17th.
