Dark Horse Acquires MPD-Psycho Manga

Anime News Network has confirmed that Dark Horse Comics has acquired distribution rights to the MPD-Psycho manga series by Eiji Ohtsuka and Shou Tajima. The sci-fi mystery series has been adapted into a 6-episode live-action television series, directed by Takashi Miike, which has been released on North American DVD.

Advent Children Alternate Version Announced

Square Enix yesterday announced plans to release “Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete” on Japanese DVD and Blu-Ray. The re-release will apparently contain additional footage not included in the original DVD release.

Gonzo to Animate Japanese Prime Minister

On October 8th, the Fuji TV network will air a documentary titled “Daremo Shiranai Koizumi Junichiro no Shoutai” (Everyone, Become Aquainted With Koizumi Junichiro’s True Colors). The special, recaping the highlights of current Japanese Prime Minister Koizumi Junichiro’s five year term in office, will include an animated segment produced by Gonzo Digimation.

English Language Brave Story DVD Announced

Warner Home Video has announced plans to release Gonzo’s anime feature film Brave Story on four different home video formats in Japan on November 23rd: DVD, Blu-Ray, HD DVD, and UMD. The standard DVD editions will include optional English dubbing, and optional English subtitles. The Blu-Ray, HD, and UMD versions will not include any English translations.

The DVD will be released in three different editions. Each edition will contain the 112 minute long film with selectable Japanese audio in 5.1 & English audio in 6.1 DTS, and optional Japanese & English subtitles.

The DVD will be available as a:

Discount priced, 2,980 yen, limited edition single disc version that contains the movie and 10 minutes of bonus material

Double disc special edition retailing at 3,980 yen that includes 82 minutes of bonus features.

A Collector’s Box 4 disc edition that includes 391 minutes of bonus material on three supplemental discs, retailing at 9,800 yen.

Manga Entertainment Sold Again

For the second time in two years, Manga Entertainment has been acquired by a new owner. IDT Entertainment, which purchased Manga Entertainment in 2004, has itself been acquired by Liberty Media. Liberty Media has merged IDT Entertainment with the Starz Entertainment Group to form Starz, LLC, which will manage companies including Manga Entertainment, Film Roman, Anchor Bay, and the Starz Entertainment group of satellite TV networks.

Death Note Movie 2 Trailer Released

The official Death Note live action movie homepage now hosts a trailer for Death Note: The Last Name, the second of two planned films. The trailer is available for narrowband and broadband connections. The Last Name is scheduled for Japanese theatrical release on November 3rd.
