Media Blasters Schedules Tekkaman Blade

Media Blasters will release its first DVD set of uncut Tekkaman Blade, the 1992 series that was the adapted into “Teknoman,” on December 19th. The 400 minute DVD set will retail at $29.95.

Death Note 2 Trailer Available

The official homepage for Death Note: The Last Name, the second of two live action Death Note motion pictures, now hosts a full length theatrical trailer in streaming Windows Media format. The movie is scheduled for Japanese theatrical release on November 3rd.

Moeyo Ken TV Series
Coyote Ragtime Show TV series

AD Vision has opened its ADV Universe download store. The site offers a selection of English dubbed anime episodes for commercial download. Downloads are not compatible with Mac, Linux, or portable devices.

Les Miserables Anime Homepage Opened

Nippon Animation has opened its homepage for Les Miserables: Shoujo Cossette, an anime adaptation of Victor Hugo’s classic novel. The planned 52 episode series will premier next year with a 90 minute long pilot special.

Ask John: Why Is Ghost in the Shell So Popular?

Question:
In response to your response about why serious anime contains comic relief, I wanted to ask why it is that Ghost in the Shell has enjoyed such popularity. Both of the movies and TV seasons are quite serious and lack any comic relief. And from what I understand, the first movie was never as popular in Japan as in America. Even so, there’s been two TV seasons, another movie, and now an OVA, all with gigantic budgets. Are the producers appealing more to the Western markets than to the Japanese one? Or is there something about the show that makes it contrary to your conclusion that most popular anime in Japan isn’t very serious?
