Geneon Acquires Disgaea Anime

Galaxy Anime has confirmed with representatives of NIS America that Geneon will distribute the Makai Senki Disgaea ~Makai e no Shotaijyou~ (Disgaea: Invitation to Hell) anime TV series on American DVD beginning later this year.

New Anime Series Websites Opened

The official Japanese homepage for the Mamotte! Lollipop anime TV series has opened. The show is scheduled to premier on July 6th.

The official Japanese homepage for Studio Fantasia’s upcoming “SF bishoujo mecha action” anime series “Souhika no Strain” (Romanization may be incorrect) is now open.

American Disgaea Websites Opened

Nippon Ichi Software has opened an English language/American version of the Disgaea 2 RPG homepage.

AD Vision Schedules New Titles

AD Vision has scheduled release dates for two new anime titles.

The UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie OVA DVD will retail at $29.98 beginning September 5th.
Comic Party Revolution volume 1 will retail at $29.98 beginning September 19th.
Jinki: Extend volume 1 will retail at $29.98 beginning September 26th.

Manga Schedules Noein

Viz Announces Densha Otoko DVD Release

Viz has announced plans to release the hit Japanese live action movie “Train Man: Densha Otoko” on American DVD in January 2007 by new Viz distribution label Viz Pictures. Viz will preview the movie on July 1st at Anime Expo. The film will receive its American theatrical premier in September in New York, with screenings in other major cities to follow.

Viz will begin releasing its English translation of the “Train Man: Densha Otoko” manga in October.

Izumi Kawachi Signing Scheduled

Ask John: How Much Does the Anime Industry Encourage Creativity?

Question:
Many well known people in the video game industry (such as Nintendo’s Miyamoto) have pointed out how stale gaming is. Each year sees little more than “clone” after “clone” with very little creativity or ingenuity gracing any particular “mainstream” release. I’m curious as to how/if this mentality applies to the anime/manga industry. To what extent do you think it’s accurate to say companies think nothing more than, “Make me the next Dragon Ball/Evangelion/Naruto/One Piece,” versus saying, “Make something creative and unique and let’s see how it performs”? To what extent do you think this is helpful to the industry, and to what extend do you feel it’s detrimental to it?

Viz to Screen Densha Otoko at Expo

Viz has issued a press release announcing its plans for the upcoming Anime Expo convention. Among the details mentioned is the first announcement of a possible American license for the 2005 Japanese hit live action movie Train Man (Densha Otoko). Viz will screen the movie on Saturday, July 1st at 7:30pm.
