Gonzo to Animate Peggy Sue

Gonzo Digital Holdings and GAGA Communications have announced plans for Gonzo Studios to create an anime motion picture adaptation of Serge Brussolo’s best selling French novel series Peggy Sue. The movie will be released in Japan in the second half of 2008.

Time Jam: Valerian & Laureline Trailer Online

A Flash trailer for the upcoming French/Japanese co-produced animated adaptation of Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mezieres’s Valerian & Laureline comics is now available. Japanese studio Satelight is involved in the production.

Is there a type of shoujo anime for older girls and young women? I’ve seen titles such as Paradise Kiss that have more mature themes and darker tones. If there is a type of anime aimed at older girls? Are there any titles you recommend?

First Look at Appleseed 2

Famitsu Magazine has published the first promotional image of the second Appleseed theatrical movie, titled “Ex Machina.” The film is being directed by Shinji Aramaki and produced by John Woo. Reportedly Woo has had some creative involvement in the new movie’s story development and action scenes. According to IGN, the movie is scheduled for Japanese release next year.

Buso Renkin Anime Announced?

Anime News Service reports that Xebec has plans to produce an anime television series adaptation of Rurouni Kenshin creator Nobuhiro Watsuki’s best selling fantasy/action manga serial Buso Renkin. The series will reportedly debut this fall.

Atagoul Movie Coming This Fall

Akadot reports that the full CG Atagoul wa Neko no Mori (”Atagoul is Cat’s Forest”) motion picture, based on Hirosi Masumura’s classic manga series, will open in Japanese theaters this fall. Plans for the movie were first announced in early 2004.

Japanese studio Digital Frontier produced a short CG “Fushigi Sekai Atagoul Monogatari” (”Mysterious World Atagoul Story”) movie in 2000.

Viz Announces New Licenses

Geneon Acquires More Kyo Kara Maoh

Geneon has announced its acquisition of translation and distribution rights to the “second season” of “Kyo Kara Maoh! God (?) Save Our King!” The second season’s 39 episodes will begin releasing on DVD in November, timed for a smooth continuation from the first season, the final volume of which is due September 5.
