FUNimation Announces New Licenses

FUNimation has officially announced its acquisition of translation and distribution rights to the Tsukuyomi ~Moon Phase~ television series. And at the recent Anime Vegas convention, FUNimation announced its acquisition of distribution rights to the Mahou Sensei Negima anime series.

Seven Seas Begins Licensing From Japan

Publisher Seven Seas has announced its entry into the field of licensing manga and related properties from Japan. Seven Seas’ first acquisitions are part of the Boogiepop franchise.

Starting in February 2006, Seven Seas will release English language translations of Kouhei Kadono’s first three Boogiepop Phantom novels, both volumes of the Boogiepop Doesn’t Laugh manga series drawn by character designer Kouji Ogata and the two-volume Boogiepop Dual manga illustrated by Masayuki Takano.

The Third Anime Series Announced

The current issue of Japan’s Dragon Magazine includes an announcement that Hoshino Akira’s swords and sorcery fantasy novel series “The Third” will be adapted into an anime series.

New Naruto OVA Announced

According to The Magic Box, The Naruto: Narutimate Hero 3 action RPG for the Playstation 2 will include a bonus original anime DVD produced by the Naruto TV series animation staff. The game is scheduled for Japanese release on December 22nd.

Last Evangelion Angel-XX Revealed

The official website for the Evangelion 10th Anniversary Angel-XX figures has revealed that the fourth and final figure in the series will be Lilith=XX, also known as Ayanami Rei.

Cartoon Network to Produce Gamera Cartoon

According to Anime News Service, Japanese multi-media publishing company Kadokawa has revealed that the American Cartoon Network has plans to produce an American Gamera animated series for North American broadcast in 2007.

Otomo To Direct Live Action Mushishi

According to Anime News Service, Akira and Steamboy director Katsuhiro Otomo will helm a live action film adaptation of Yuki Urushibara’s award winning supernatural fantasy manga series Mushishi. The film is scheduled for Japanese release in winter 2006. Mushishi will be Otomo’s second live action film. Otomo directed the live action film World Apartment Horror in 1991.

Viz Announces One Piece DVDs

Following Toei’s apparent withdrawl of direct home video distribution in the United States, Viz Media has announced that it will begin distributing One Piece on American DVD beginning February 28th. The American One Piece DVDs will be edited and English dubbed only. Viz Media is not producing the American DVD localization, only distributing the domestic DVDs.

Media Blasters Schedules New Titles

Media Blasters has scheduled several new title releases:

The adult anime “Dark Love” will retail at $29.95 beginning February 28, 2006
The adult anime “Invasion of the Boobie Snatchers” will retail at $29.95 beginning February 14, 2006.

Phantom the Animation, originally scheduled for release on August 16, 2005, then delayed until October 25, 2005, has been re-scheduled for release on February 28, 2006. The DVD will be available at $29.95, or $39.95 in a double disc set with the Phantom of Inferno DVD game that the anime is based on.

Viewtiful Joe American TV Broadcast Scheduled

Live Ation Graveyard of Fireflies Movie Scheduled

Japanese television network NTV will broadcast a live action TV movie version of Hotaru no Haka (”Graveyard of Fireflies”) on November 1st. The movie’s official Japanese website hosts a 12 second long streaming Windows Media trailer.

GUNxSWORD Episode 1 Available Online

The official Japanese GUNxSWORD website now offers the series’ entire first episode for free viewing online. The streaming episode is available for narrowband and broadband connection speeds. The episode will be available until October 31st.

The official Japanese website for the Gaiking: Legend of Daiku-Maryu television series now hosts a short streaming Windows Media format trailer. The series is scheduled to premier on November 12th.
