Synch-Point Schedules Di Gi Charat TV Series Release

Synch-Point has announced release dates for the 51 minute long Di Gi Charat TV series DVD.

A limited edition released on July 26th will retail at $39.95.
A disc only edition released on August 23rd will retail at $29.95.

AD Vision to Change Gantz Release Style

AD Vision has confirmed plans to increase the episode count on forthcoming Gantz DVDs. Volume 7 will contain 4 episodes and retail at $29.98 or $39.98 with series box. Subsequent volumes will contain 3 episodes each.

Square Enix Confirms Advent Children Dub

At a post-E3 press conference, Square Enix President Yoichi Wada confirmed plans to dub the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children movie in English for its American release. The possibility of a subtitled release is under consideration.

Ask John: What Was Anime on American TV Like Before Dragonball Z?

Based solely on my own recollection, anime seemed to begin its “explosion” onto the mainstream with the broadcast of Dragonball Z on Cartoon Network, back in 1998/99. Do you recall what broadcasts or viewing of anime was like before that period?

Sugar Sugar Rune Anime Announced

Marvelous Entertainment has issued a Japanese language PDF format press release announcing that a Sugar Sugar Rune anime TV series will premier on the TV Tokyo network July 2nd. Bandai is also developing a Sugar Sugar Rune game for the Playstation 2.

Gunbuster 2 Episode 3 Trailer Available

The official Japanese website for the Top wo Nerae 2 OAV series now hosts a streaming Windows Media trailer for the third episode, scheduled for Japanese release on June 24th. The trailer is available in narrowband and broadband resolution.

Full Metal Alchemist Manga Remains Best Seller

For the third straight week since it’s release, Full Metal Alchemist volume 1 has been the best selling graphic novel in mainstream American retail stores. “FMA’s performance solidifies its position as the breakout manga/anime product of 2005, driven by the popularity of the anime series on the Cartoon Network.”

According to the most recent report from Nielsen BookScan, manga titles account for 40 out of the top 50 current best selling graphic novels in mainstream retail stores.

Ask John: Why Do Americans Hate Harem Anime?

Question:
It seems to me a ton of fans groan with the fansubbing and commercial release of each harem anime title. Females I know show such violent reactions that they categorically refuse to watch anything in the genre because they say it’s stupid and sexist. They view harem anime as if it were the Anti-Christ.

Tales of Phantasia OAV 3 Trailer Available

Animate.tv now hosts a streaming 2:30 trailer for the third and final episode of the Tales of Phantasia OAV series. The episode is scheduled for Japanse DVD release on the 25th. The trailer is available in narrowband and broadband resolutions.

ICv2 News Discusses 2005 Manga Trends

ICv2 News has published an article briefly citing trends in domestic manga releases this year. The article points out that most domestic publishers are reducing their number of scheduled releases and focusing primarily on easily marketable titles rather than niche market or less popular titles.

Geneon Announces Gungrave Boxed Set

Geneon has announced that a 7 disc Gungrave DVD boxed set will be released on July 19th. The set will retail at $199.98, roughly the same price as buying the discs individually at normal retail price.

Right Stuf Announces Plans to Remaster To Heart

Right Stuf has officially announced plans to remaster the 1999 To Heart anime TV series before releasing it on domestic DVD. As a result, the American DVDs should have improved image quality over the original Japanese DVD release, but the American release will be delayed until the restoration is complete.
