Central Park Media Licensing News

Anime on DVD reports speculation, based on information provided to retail companies, that Central Park Media no longer holds the domestic distribution rights to the second Yu Yu Hakusho motion picture, formerly available in America as “Poltergeist Report.”

Furthermore, CPM appears to be the domestic licensor of the Shadowstar Narutaru TV series, Angel Blade adult anime OAV series, and the Outlanders OAV that was formerly released in America by L.A. Hero. CPM will also be re-releasing the second Patlabor OAV series, Patlabor New Files, for the first time on domestic DVD in June 2005.

Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle TV Anime Announced

Japan’s Shonen Weekly Magazine has officially announced that CLAMP’s Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle will be adapted into an anime TV series next year. The new anime will air on NHK stations beginning in April.

New Anime Series Sites Opened

The official Japanese website for the second Guardian Hearts OAV series, Guardian Hearts: Power Up!, is now open.

Toei Animation’s official site for the Air motion picture is now open.

Toei has opened its official website for the Digital Monster X-evolution (pronounced “zevolution”) that will premier on Fuji TV networks on January 3rd. The official Japanese Digimon website now hosts a streaming Windows Media trailer for the new TV series.

TV Asahi has now confirmed Pretty Cure: Max Heart.

The upcoming Raimuiro Senkitan X Cross anime TV series now has its own official site.

Godzilla Final Wars Reviews Available

Why are things like X-Men, Spiderman, Blade, Superman, Batman, and Daredevil embraced in such a loving way by adults and “important” people in this nation but manga and anime is almost shunned and ridiculed and they shrug it off as cartoons?

Hollywood to Film Live Action Gundam Movie

According to an Ain’t It Cool News report, Mobile Suit Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino has revealed that an unspecified Hollywood studio will collaborate with Japan’s Bandai and Sunrise Studios on the production of an American live action Mobile Suit Gundam movie based on the original TV series story.

Nintendo to Produce Anime

In early September, former Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi announced his hope that Nintendo would move into the animation production business. According to The Magic Box quoting from the Nihon Keizai Newspaper, the Nintendo board of directors has agreed with Yamauchi’s proposal. Nintendo will formally begin producing anime with accompanying video game tie-ins in 2006.

Risky Safety Hits Japan Again

To coincide with the re-release of Omishi Magical Theater: Risky Safety on Japanese DVD, M.O.E. has opened a new Risky Safety website that features a 30 second streaming Windows Media trailer, ending animation, and previews for all 24 episodes.

International Manga and Anime Festival Extends Submission Deadline

The International Manga and Anime Festival based in London, England, has extended its contest submission deadline from November 30 to December 31, 2004. The competition will award $75,000 worth of prizes in recognition of the world’s best “manga and anime talent” in the categories of Best Short Animation, Best Storyboard, and Best Character.

Manga Mover Issue One Available for Order Now

The first issue of the Manga Mover comic anthology is now available for order from Diamond Comics in the November issue of Previews. The first issue of the anthology will feature translated stories by Japanese artists Sakura Mizuki, Misako Rocks & Tomoko Amemiya, and a native English language story by Sean Michael Wilson with art by Juan Chavarriga. The 68 page perfect bound issue of Manga Mover will retail at $5.99 US.

Ask John: Why do Anime and Manga Have to Contain Nudity?

Question:
Why do great titles have to include nudity. I don’t see any point in this as it is not vital to the storyline of most manga. It also bars younger siblings from reading good manga. I also do not see any point in hentai. The only thing it does is disgrace the name of anime.
