Anime Mix Goes National

American manga-style comic publisher EigoMANGA has announced that it will produce a version of the San Francisco area fan produced Anime Mix “music video show” (anime fandom/news program) for nationwide television broadcast on the new U Network, a national cable network catering towards university students. The first episode of Anime Mix will air on the U Network on September 6th. Visit Anime on DVD for the full press announcement.

Long Gundam Seed Destiny Trailer Available

The official Japanese Gundam Seed homepage now hosts a streaming 2:40 trailer for Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny, which premiers on Japanese television on October 9th.

Media Blasters Announces New Adult Titles

Media Blasters has announced that the 60 minute adult anime DVD “Body Transfer” will be released on December 14, and the 90 minute adult anime “Slave Nurses” will be released on December 28th. Both DVDs will retail at $29.98 each.

Front Innocent Release Date Announced

After 3 years in production, Satoshi Urushihara’s first full adult anime production, Front Innocent volume 1, will tentatively be released on October 25th at a retail price of 7,140 yen. A limited edition 30 minute long Front Innocent volume 0 was released on August 13th, which included a promotional trailer and background information on the project, along with a Front Innocent drama CD and 2005 calendar. The official Front Innocent webpage features images from the promotional trailer. Please note that the website contains images with graphic nudity.

Ask John: Is it Fair to Call Fullmetal Alchemist Uncut on American TV if it’s Edited?

Question:
Is it fair for Funimation and Cartoon Network to promote the American broadcast of Fullmetal Alchemist as uncut, yet admit that it was digitally edited? Isn’t digital editing, for violence or any other reason, taking away an arguably vital elements from a series, and therefore ‘cutting’ it? I can remember several series (Outlaw Star and Blue Sub No. 6 come to mind first) where the removal or altering of a single element caused much of the impact of a scene to be lost, or even made a dramatic scene laughable.

New TV Network to Carry Anime

The ImaginAsian Network will debut at 6AM on August 30th. The new Asian specialty network will air anime series including Kurogane Communication, Patlabor, Votoms, Space Pirate Mito, Figure 17, Twelve Kingdoms, Gravitation, and Jungle Emperor Leo: The Movie.

Media Blasters Announces New Titles

Media Blasters has announced that Eiken DVD volume 1 and Shrine of the Morning Mist (Asagiri no Miko) DVD volume 1 will be released on December 14th for $19.95 and $29.95 respectively.

The 12 episode Seraphim Call TV series will be released on a single double disc DVD set on December 28th, at a retail price of $29.98.

TOKYOPOP Schedules Mouryou Kiden

DVD Release of Cutie Honey Movie Announced

Japan’s Vap Video has announced that the Hideaki Anno directed live action Cutie Honey movie will be released to DVD in Japan on December 22nd in a standard edition and a limited edition.

The standard edition DVD will retail at 5,040 yen. The collector’s edition will retail at 13,440 and include a double disc set of the movie, a 70 minute “making of,” 20 minutes of deleted scenes, a 3 minute “pilot film,” trailers, a music video and more. The collector’s edition will also include a 12 page booklet and a limited edition, 14cm tall Cutie Honey combat uniform figure produced by Bandai under Hideaki Anno’s supervision.

The AV Watch article does not mention any English translation included on the DVD.

New DVD Boxed Sets Scheduled

AnimEigo has announced plans to release its latest DVD boxed set of the Bubblegum Crisis OAV series on November 9th. The new set will retail at $69.99 and again contain OAV episodes 1-8 and both music video OAVs.

Also on November 9th, TOKYOPOP will release its first Initial D boxed set, containing DVD volumes 1-5 (episodes 1-15 of 26). The set will retail at $89.99.
