Fullmetal Panic 3 Announced

According to Japanese fan site Fullmeta.com, the September issue of Dragon Magazine will contain an official confirmation that Fullmetal Panic! Fumoffu? director Yasuhiro Takemoto will direct the third Full Metal Panic anime. There is no detail on whether the anime will be a TV series, OAV series, or motion picture.

New Innocence Trailer Online

The Movie Box now hosts the original Japanese trailer for Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, and the new American trailer, in a variety of formats and sizes.

The film opens in limited American theatrical release on September 17th.

To Heart ~ Remember My Memories Website Open

The official Japanese website for the To Heart ~ Remember My Memories TV series is now open. The series will debut on Japanese television in October.

The first To Heart anime TV series was broadcast on Japanese television in 1999.

Steamboy Falls in Japanese Box Office

Providing evidence of what types of anime are most successful in Japan, in its second week of theatrical release, the new Pocket Monster movie held its position as second highest grossing film in Japan, following Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban. Steamboy, which opened in fourth place last week, fell to sixth highest grossing film in Japanese theaters this week.

Boston Globe Covers Manga

The Boston Globe newspaper has published a lengthy article introducing mainstream readers to the phenomenon of English translated manga. The article presents little new information that anime fans don’t already know, but does include an interesting accusation and rebuttal that TOKYOPOP manga exhibits “shabby” translation and localization quality.

Media Blasters Acquires New Manga Titles

Ghost in the Shell TV DTS DVD Defective

From Anime on DVD: According to a response from Bandai Entertainment, they’re currently investigating an issue with the just released DTS version of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex where audio out of the left rear speaker is either non-existent or lower than it should be (based on several reports, people have experienced both): “We are sorry to hear that you are encountering problems with the DVD. We are aware of the glitch in the DTS and trying to figure out what is causing it so we can officially declare it as an error. We will notify you with a solution once we have fully comprehended the situation. We thank you for your patience and cooperation.”

First Look at Stellvia DVD Box

ICV2 News now hosts a photo of the limited edition Stellvia metal DVD collector’s box from Geneon Entertainment. The metal box will retail at $39.98 beginning September 21st. The regular DVD only edition will retail at $24.98.

The American tin case is a bit more colorful than the elegant but simple Japanese Uchuu no Stellvia DVD collection 1.

New Detail on Live Action Cream Lemon Movie

Sponichi Annex reports that the live action Cream Lemon movie, based on the hit adult anime OAV series from 1984, is an adaptation of the famous Ami Nonomura incest story. The film stars first time actress, 17 year old Chiharu Muraishi as Ami, and veteran actor Kenji Mizuhashi (age 29) as her older brother Hiroshi. The film is directed by first time director Atsuhiro Yamashita. The movie is tentatively scheduled to debut in Japan this September.

All these years watching anime, I always thought the studios behind them were big and make a lot of money. But I heard it’s just the opposite. In fact, rumors say the reason why most stay in business is because foreign companies such as U.S. companies buy their shows. Is that true?

Manga Represented at Eisner Awards

The 2004 Eisner Awards, the highest honor presented by the American comic book industry, recognized Vertical’s English language publication of Osamu Tezuka’s Buddha as Best U.S. Edition of Foreign Material. And Lone Wolf & Cub creators Kazuo Koike and Goseki Kojima were inducted into the Comic Book Hall of Fame.

Newtype USA Changes Distribution Policy

AnimeNation has confirmed via direct communication with Newtype USA Magazine that as of the current issue, retail and news stand copies of Newtype USA Magazine will continue to retail at $9.95 per issue but will no longer include a free sampler DVD. Only consumers with a subscription to the magazine purchased directly from the publisher will continue to receive the monthly bonus DVDs.
