Del Rey Announces New Manga Acquisitions

In an announcement sure to please many English speaking fans, Del Rey Books has officially announced its acquisition of the translation rights to CLAMP’s latest two manga series, XXXholic and Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle. Tsubasa is the recently begun alternate reality Card Captor Sakura story, and both manga series feature cross-over characters from other CLAMP titles including Cardcaptor Sakura and Chobits. These two new acquisitions join Del Rey’s first two title acquisitions: Masatsugu Iwase’s Mobile Suit Gundam Seed and Ken Akamatsu’s current series Mahou Sensei Negima.

New Rockman Anime Announced

TV Tokyo has announced that Rockman.exe Axess (Access), the second Rockman.exe anime TV series, will debut on October 4th.

Question:
Why do so many anime fans cry and complain so much concerning the selective editing of anime when it’s broadcast? You’d think the networks and everybody involved was committing a capital crime. Don’t these people realize they should just buy the DVDs and stop complaining? Broadcasting anime is increasing awareness and the number of anime fans, so shouldn’t fans be thankful anime is available on TV at all?

New Cartoon Network Inuyasha Season Uncut?

The Cartoon Network has reportedly advertised that the current season of Inuyasha, which just started earlier this week on Adult Swim, is being aired unedited. The good news is that the program is apparently unedited. The bad news is that this is such an unusual event that it needs to be advertised as such.

Gackt to Appear in Video Game

According to Gamespot, Taito and Red Entertainment (formerly Red Company, the developers of the Gungrave and Sakura Wars video games) are currently co-developing a PlayStation 2 futuristic action game called Bujingai. The game features a scenario written by Yousuke Kuroda (Trigun, Onegai Teacher) and character design by Toshihiro Kawamoto (Cowboy Bebop, Golden Boy) with the main character based on and motion captured on J-pop star Gackt.

Ask John: Why is There So Much Drinking in Anime?

Question:
I have noticed that in some anime series I’ve seen drinking seem to be a habit. Sometimes for fun, sometimes an everyday thing. I have also notice that drinking can be found in even young ages like junior high. (I am referring to Kimagure Orange Road for example. I am sure there are much more animation that are similar). Is drinking such a habit in Japan? What age is it ok to drink? Well, at least according to Japanese anime?

New Voice Actor Chat Session Scheduled

AnimationHQ will be hosting a chat session with accomplished voice actress Cathy Cavadini on Saturday, August 30th at 7 pm EDT. Catherine Cavadini’s voice can be heard in dozens of feature films and television series. Perhaps best known recently as Blossom in Cartoon Network’s The Powerpuff Girls, other memorable roles include North Star in My Little Pony, Glitter in Kidd Video, Jennifer Parker in Back to the Future: The Animated Series, and roles in feature films including Anastasia, The Lion King, Antz, Dinosaur, Lilo and Stitch, Toy Story, and Final Fantasy.

Why do Gainax always do the Evangelion sequels into the PS1 and the PS2? I mean, why don’t they make them anime like the series? It would have sold more!

Sailormoon R Uncut Set One Episode Short

According to Anime on DVD, AD Vision’s upcoming uncut, subtitled only DVD boxed set of Sailormoon R will not include TV episode 67 because the Japanese licensor would not allow the episode to be included in the set.

Sailormoon episode 67, “Ocean, Island, Vacation! Senshi’s Day Off,” is a seemingly innocent episode in which the girls take a vacation on a small island and Chibi Usa becomes friends with a baby dinosaur.

Inuyasha & St. Seiya Coming to YTV

Canada’s YTV Network will begin airing Inuyasha and Knights of the Zodiac (St. Seiya) on Friday, September 5th. St. Seiya will air one episode at 7:30 PM, repeated at 2:30 AM. Inuyasha will air two back-to-back episodes from 10 to 11 PM, repeated at 1 to 2 AM.

CPM Announces New Adult Titles

Central Park Media has scheduled DVD releases for three new adult anime titles.

Vixens (Japanese title unknown) will have a 115 minute running time and retail at $29.99 beginning on December 2nd.

Blood Shadow (Guren) will include all 3 half-hour episodes and retail at $29.99 beginning on December 2nd.

Urotsukidoji: New Saga volume 1 (Urotsuki OAV 1) will present the first of four 45 minute long episodes for $29.99 beginning on December 2nd.

Teizokurei Daydream OAV Announced

The current issue of Monthly Shonen Ace-A Magazine apparently contains the official announcement that the Teizokurei Daydream (Vulgar Ghost Daydream) manga by Okuse Saki & Meguro Sankichi will be adapted into an anime OAV series this winter. For cover images of the first 4 of 5 (so far) volumes of collected manga, scroll to the bottom of this page and look for the English language word “Daydream.”

Five Ways Goes Bankrupt

According to Japanese news site Rakuga Kidou, Japanese anime production company Five Ways has declared bankruptcy. The company has released adult anime titles including Hand Maid Mai, Five Card, My Life As…, Leatherman, Flashback Game, and D.N.A. Hunter.
