Pioneer Changes Ryvius Release Date Again

Pioneer has apparently changed the release date of the regular and limited editions of the Infinite Ryvius volume 1 DVD once again, this time to October 14th.

The limited edition was originally announced for release on September 2nd, followed by a regular edition DVD on September 16th. Then both versions were rescheduled for release on October 21st. Now both editions have been rescheduled for October 14th.

Millennium Actress Release Scheduled

According to Animated Movies.com, DreamWorks will screen Millennium Actress in limited theatrical engagements in L.A. and New York on September 12, followed by a DVD premiere nationwide on October 28. The Official American Site now has a Flash image placemarker.

T.M. Revolution Coming to America

Tofu Records will be publishing domestic version of T.M. Revolution’s latest CD “Cordinate” and the “Summer Crush” 2 disc DVD set containing live concert footage and more. Both releases will be available for sale before official street date at the upcoming Otacon convention where T.M. Revolution will be on hand to preform live and sign autographs.

Takehiko Ito at AnimeNEXT

AnimeNEXT is pleased to announce that Takehiko Ito, creator and artist of Outlaw Star and Angel Links, will be attending this year’s convention, to be held October 3-5 at the Rye Town Hilton located 30 minutes north of New York City. This will be Mr. Ito’s first appearance at an anime convention in the United States! Mr. Ito will be participating in panels and autograph sessions.

Details on Ninja Scroll 10th Anniversary DVD

Manga Entertainment has officially announced the technical details of the upcoming Ninja Scroll 10th Anniversary DVD re-release. The release will be one double-sided DVD with the remastered pan & scan version on one side and the “enhanced” widescreen on the opposite side. The disc will be housed in a tri-fold digi-pack case and retail for $34.95 beginning on September 30th.

Bonus features will include interviews with director Yoshiaki Kawajiri and the English language dub cast, a “History of Jubie” (presumably “Jubei”), Dolby Digital 6.1 and Dolby Digital EX surround sound, and more.

Saiyuki Sequel Announced

In a somewhat surprising announcement, Monthly Comic Zero Sum has confirmed that Studio Pierrot will produce a sequel to the 2000 Gensomaden Saiyuki TV series that ended on March 27, 2001. The first episode of Saiyuki Reload will air on Japanese television this fall.

Studio Ghibli Hiring

Studio Ghibli is hiring in the areas of animation, background art, and finishing (digital painting). Gender, school education, experience and nationality are not considered, but it is necessary to have strong Japanese language skills to communicate with the staff.

The announced starting salary is 167,000 yen (US $1,401.13) per month plus travel expenses for a nine-month training period beginning in April 2004 and work hours from 10am to 6pm with overtime and holidays.

Applications close September 8th, 2003, for animation and ten days later for background and finishing. Further details, in Japanese, are available here.

Question:
I’m a huge fan of FLCL. I was first exposed to it when I worked at Nickelodeon back in 2000. Our boss hooked up his Japanese DVD player and the whole crew proceeded to watch this amazing anime. He pronounced it Furi Kuri. But since then I’ve seen it pronounced Fooly Cooly. Even on the DVD packaging itself, they refer to it as both Furi Kuri and Fooly Cooly? What’s up? How do you properly pronounce it?

Nausicaa R2 DVD Release Details

Impress AV Watch has published the details of the Japanese DVD release of Hayao Miyazaki’s classic film Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind. The movie will be released on November 19th in three different editions.

The Regular Edition will include the double disc special edition of the movie with a reversible sleeve, optional English subtitles, and Japanese language audio commentary by Hideaki Anno (supervisor for the giant god soldier/ohmu attack scene) and Kazuyoshi Katayama (animation director). The DVD will retail at 4,700 yen. First edition copies will also include a bonus “Blue Angel version DVD soft case.”

The Limited Edition will include the DVD and a ceramic figure of Nausicaa. First edition copies will also include the bonus “Blue Angel version DVD soft case.” The limited edition will retail at 7,800 yen, but according to CD Japan, the limited edition of 50,000 copies is already sold out in Japan.

The Collector’s Box Edition will include the DVD, ceramic figure, framed print, Ohmu model, and “Kyoshinhei version DVD soft case” at a retail price of 24,800 yen.

AnimeNation will, of course, attempt to import copies of all three editions of the Japanese Nausicaa DVD through our exclusive Japanese suppliers.

New DVD Announcements

FUNimation will release a DVD boxed set version of Blue Gender on September 30th for a retail price of $119.98, a savings of nearly $80 off the individual DVD retail prices.

Media Blasters has announced a Space Pirate Mito First Season DVD Boxed set (episodes 1-13) for release on October 28th at a retail price of only $39.95.

Media Blasters will also release the 1997 Jungle Emperor Leo movie on bilingual DVD on October 28th at a retail price of $19.95.

Critical Mass has announced the October 28th release of the Vanilla Series: Holy Virgins adult anime DVD. The $24.95 disc will contain both episodes of Tres Marias: Sanin no Seishoujo.
