Ask John: Is There More Dragon Half or Other SD Anime?

Question:
Dragon Half is the silliest and funniest anime I have seen. What other super deform anime are there? I can’t believe only two episodes were made, is there a part three released?

Answer:
You’re stretching my brain a little bit here, but I’ll give it a shot. There were only two Dragon Half episodes produced, even in Japan. AnimeEigo subtitled the AIC Ten-Little Gall Force and Scramble Wars OAVs. Ten-Little Gall Force was an SD parody of the original Gall Force trilogy. Scramble Wars was an SD adventure comedy about a cross-country race between the Bubblegum Crisis girls, the Gall Force Starleaf crew, the AD Police, and the cast of Gaiarth. Unfortunately, AnimEigo has ceased production of this excellent coupling. There are numerous SD Gundam movies, OAVs, and, if I’m not mistaken, at least one TV series. Record of Lodoss War had a short movie titled Welcome to Lodoss Island run with the Maze Bakunetsu Jiku movie. There are, I believe, two volumes to the Chibi Go Nagai World OAV series. This past summer, I believe, there was also a short SD Ultraman anime theatrical movie. The robot series Wataru, Grandzort and Ryu Knight, while not actually SD, do have a very squashed, super-deformed look to them. I’m sure that there are other SD series out there, but I can’t think of any others off-hand. If anyone would like to add to this list, please feel free to send me your comments and/or additions.
